My little secret for stronger nails

As you all may have read in my previous post, I had acrylics on for the longest time, which weakened my nails tremendously. I tried so many different nail treatments to hep them grow and strengthen and for awhile I just gave up. It was one night I was talking to my cousins and the topic of her sister came up…she used to bite her nails for the longest and I remembered that we put garlic in the nail polish, hoping the smell would prevent her from putting her fingers in her mouth ( we were really young). After awhile, she noticed that her nails were getting really hard, and when she finally managed to refrain herself from biting her nails, they rarely broke.

So, I decided to cut up some fresh garlic and add it into a clear nail polish and let it ‘sit’ for about 7 days and then applied this to my natural nails. The smell is not so great, but it does go away, and it really does work. Garlic has so many strengthening properties and it is a ‘natural antibacterial’ as well. So, for my ladies who struggle with weak, brittle nails; give this a shot, there’s nothing to lose… but weak nails :) .

Just take some fresh garlic, not a lot, then chop it up and add it to any clear polish you desire. I used a Sinful colors hardener nail polish ( I like the strong stuff :P )

Please let the garlic sit in the polish for 7-10 days…I let mine sit for 10-15 and that’s just a personal preference. Hopefully you enjoyed this DIY strengthening polish and comment below if you have tried this, or have any other recommendations.

Summertime Fine Colors

Just wondering, how many of you ladies do your own nails?

For the past year and a half, I’ve stopped going to the nail salon, stopped with the gels and acrylics. It was at that point where realized how bad that was for my nails. I still remember how impatient I was once I soaked off the acrylics; my nails were thin, and brittle and it was and uncomfortable period for me. I had to be gentle with everything I did, and they were extremely short.
I have to say it took a few months for my nails to grow and become healthy once again, and at that moment I told myself, ‘No more acrylics’.

After they were ‘back to normal’, the creative side of me went in full effect. Every week, I changed my nail polish, tried new designs, I followed and kept up with the new nail trends (all that good stuff) :) . My nail polish collection was starting to expand; and very quickly might I add.

Now ladies, we all know how our ‘beauty habits’ can start to get quite pricey and large. I have everything from low to high end polishes, but I’ve really been enjoying the Sinful Colors Collection. Walmart and Walgreens carries this brand and they cost $1.99 for the regular formula, and $2.99 for the new gel formula. One of my favorite reasons I enjoy this line is because it has a huge variety in colors and they are amazing; bright, vibrant and for being under $3.00 the product lasts.

I went to Walgreens a few days ago and had to pick up these 5 shades, I felt like they are perfect for the spring/summer change.

This teal color is in ‘Rendezvous’, the hot pink is in ‘Pink Forever’, the lavender is in ‘Spitfire’, the coral is in ‘Island Coral’, and last but not least; this lime green is in ‘Innocent’.
I hope you enjoyed this post and please let me know if you know of any great brands that carries amazing polishes. :)

May’s Glam Bag

So I’ve been receiving these awesome ‘My Glam Bags’ for months now, and I absolutely love them. And I know a few people have been asking me tons of questions about where I got ‘that product’, ‘that shade’, or ‘that cute little sample’ from and of course the makeup bags. Well, now you know :)

This is a $10 subscription each month, and it includes a makeup bag and anywhere from 4-5 makeup products. Just google ‘my glam bag’ and you can pull it up and subscribe.

So, if you want to see what I received in my May’s Glam Bag, please keep reading :)

First, let’s start with this cute makeup bag that all the products come in. It’s a chevron print with a dark blue, teal, orange and white pattern. ( I’m a sucker for makeup bags )

The first product in my bag is a nail polish from (1) Zoya called Jacqueline. It’s a vanilla color and it’s absolutely gorgeous. Zoya is one of my favorite nail polish brands, I feel as if i never need more than 1 coat, and certainly lasts without applying a top coat.

Moving on to the next product, it’s a bronzing body butter from (2) Pacifica in Coconut Crushed Pearl. I do love the scent of coconut, but I feel as if it’s one of those fragrances that’s either awesome, or not…I’m not too crazy about this scent, but when I applied it one, it had a great shimmer effect; which I liked.

The next product is a full lipstick from (3) Mirabella in the shade, Posy ( more like a deep pink ). I haven’t yet tried the color, but from what I swatched, it’s very sheer lipstick. I ran the color back and forth a few times to really get the full effect.

The fourth product is a champagne colored lipgloss which is from (4) Juice Beauty, and go figure the color is called Champagne :)
When I smelled this product, it reminded me of oranges…now that doesn’t mean it smells like oranges, it just makes me think of them. I can’t really place my finger on what the scent is, so my apologies
The lipgloss is more frosty and there is no taste and just a little sticky.

The final product is a sample concealer in the shade (5) Buff from Yaby. I’m pretty obsessed with concealer, and why not? Their purpose in life is to conceal your imperfections and dark circles.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this post :)

Say Goodbye to dark circles

I’m a huge fan of Michelle Phan, and victim from dark circles. But let’s be honest, no one wants to spend tons of money to only find out that a product doesn’t work. Then not only are you stuck with those ugly dark circles, but also a whole in your wallet. I came across this video and I did a little bit of research before deciding to post this video up. ( I refuse to post anything that I don’t believe in )

After watching this short video, I decided it was time to test this product out. Of course you will not see results right away, but it’s deff worth a shot.

If you try this out, please comment below letting me know how this has worked out for you and in another month or so, I will post pictures of my results. Also, if you know of any other DIY for dark circle, or actual products that has worked for you, I would love to hear your recommendations.

Thank you :)

Flashback Friday

As soon as I got home from a very successful and productive day with amazing people, I received an email from a photographer who I had the pleasure of working with a few weeks ago. He sent me a few samples and I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of the pictures and the final outcome.

The Photographer is Doug Cupid, a local photographer and a humble individual. As a makeup artist, it’s very important that I surround myself in a comfortable atmosphere, and between his beautiful wife and himself; they went out of their way to ensure that happened. I look forward to collaborating with him in the near future again. As you can see from the picture below; the model who we worked with is absolutely stunning, so my job couldn’t have been any easier :) .

I really enjoy working with amazing people, and speaking of amazing people; I cannot wait to share some ‘sneak peeks’ from today :) .

Ombre & Glittered Lips

We’ve all seen it, and we’ve all wanted to achieve it. Ombre lips have been in for quite some time, and I decided it was time to post a picture. We don’t realize that there are different types of ombre lips; some fade into different colors going either horizontal or vertical. I decided to go with a simple ombre look that would be easy for everyone. The first picture was achieved with a purple eyeliner and I mixed a soft pink and a lavender lipstick.

The second picture I decided to go a different route. I used a white cream base over my entire lips, and then applied a generous amount of yellow eyeshadow, followed by a mixing medium and gold glitter. Glitter tends to get a bit messy and gets everywhere, so I made sure i use a makeup wipe and a q-tip to clean up the edges.

I will do a few more ‘lip looks’ and post them soon. If there is anything you are requesting to see, please feel free to comment below, and I’ll do my best to help you achieve your desired look.

Thanks for viewing :)

Cat Eyes.

I recently posted a picture on my instagram and I’ve had a lot of people ask me where I purchase them from. The lashes were from True or False Products and you can purchase them online ( www.trueorfalseproducts.com ) all of their lashes are only $1.50!!! Yea, as soon as I saw how inexpensive they were, I decided I would order a few. I have a few other ones that I haven’t yet tried out, but the one I’m wearing is called Cat Eyes, and I do like them a lot. This particular lash is very wispy and gives you a more natural look. The other lashes are a bit more dramatic, and once I’ve tried the others, I’ll continue to post pictures and let you know my thoughts on them.

Please follow me on Instagram: (at) Nalanie and if you have any questions about my makeup, hair, nails, or if there is a tutorial your interested in, please feel free to ask :)

Face Primer Under $6…Yes, this is happening

I’m not sure how we all feel about face primers, but speaking for myself, I am a huge fan. I like the fact that the Primer preps your skin for your foundation, concealer and powder; whether you use all 3 or just 1. Now I do have about 3-4 different primers that I’m currently using, but I must say, my favorite primer is by far the cheapest; and some would call it, the strangest.

We have all heard of Monistat, am I correct? Well, Monistat carries a chafing gel, and it costs about $6-8 depending on where you purchase it. I know exactly what you’re thinking, and yes, it works amazingly well. I promise no one was more surprised than I was, but I have been using this product for almost 2 1/2 years, and it’s definitely one of my favorite ‘primers’. This product has all of the same ingredients that high end primers contain, plus it contains Vitamin E, aloe and it’s fragrance free. It’s a clear gel, that glides onto your skin, leaving your skin feeling silky, matte and extremely soft. So, do what I do, purchase this product and walk up to the cashier with the biggest smile on your face. :) So, try it out for yourself; you only have $6 to lose :)
